Swedish massage

Modern massage is based on techniques developed by a Swedish physiologist called Per Henik Ling. He found that certain techniques were helpful in improving a persons health and physical conditions.

Massage benefits all of the systems of the body especially the following

  • Skin - Improves elasticity, colour and tone
  • Muscular - Removes lactic acid, thus reducing stiffness
  • Circulatory - Improves circulation, speeding up delivery of nutrients and oxygen
  • Nervous - Stimulates / relaxes the nerves, depending on techniques used
  • Lymphatic - Reduces cellulite / lumpiness, boosts immunity

As massage treats the body as a whole, it can be very good for treating stress and stress related conditions.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage uses the physical and aromatic effects of essential oils for relaxation and physical/emotional well being. The therapist will select various essential oils and blend them with a carrier oil to suit the individual clients needs. One blend does not suit all, therefore each client will have their own individual blend made, dependent on how they are feeling at the time of the massage.

Essential oils can be relaxing, uplifting, antiseptic, refreshing, stimulating, anti inflammatory, anti viral, cooling, rubefacient, detoxifying, antispasmodic

Blends are available to purchase for home use at the end of the treatment (£5 per 100ml bottle).

Hot Stone Massage

An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The client can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant to the request of the client. The hardness of the stones makes for a deep tissue massage.

The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increase the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles also aids in mental relaxation.

Hot Stone therapy can help in the treatment of the following problems;

muscular tension, lower back pain, anxiety and stress.

The heat of the stones helps muscles release more quickly than in traditional massage.

Indian Head Massage

Massage has always played an important part in the Indian way of life. It has been mentioned in some of the earliest Ayurvedic texts dating back 4,000 years. Massage not only strengthens the muscles and firms the skin but can encourage the body to heal itself.

Indian head massage concentrates on the shoulders, neck, scalp and face areas. Clients are fully clothed and the therapist uses a range of movements, including gently stimulating the pressure points of the face, to deep compression movements over the shoulders.

It can be useful for increasing joint mobility and flexibility of the neck and shoulders, improving the circulation and eliminates toxins and waste products.

It can also be very good for relieving stress, tension, anxiety and stress.

Indian head massage is best avoided if you have any of the following conditions- Recent surgery, head / neck injury, thrombosis and spondylosis.

Deep Tissue Massage

This type of massage is not only for sports men / women but can be beneficial to most people.

Deep Tissue is a specific massage; adapting techniques to work below superficial connective tissue, with the aim to release old structural patterns and allow the free flow of nutrients and oxygen in the blood and so to the tissues themselves. It focuses on releasing the deeper myofascial restrictions of the deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. Deep Tissue Massage helps to free trapped nerves, oxygenate poorly circulated areas and allows the spine and joints to relax into alignment.

It is good for treating clients with muscular tenderness and lack of flexibility. It also requires the therapist to apply a considerable amount of pressure, which in some cases may cause some discomfort to the client; however, the therapist will always work within the comfort zone of the client.

The therapist uses movements to release chronic muscle tension through slow and deep strokes, with more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. The therapist will detect of stiff, knotted or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue.

Soft Tissue Release is a combination of movement and manipulation by locking in to the relevant tissues, whilst simultaneously stretching and aligning muscle fibres - this is often a missing link in the treatment of tightness and restriction of muscles.

Neuro-muscular techniques (NMT) can be employed to alleviate these areas and so reduce knots and adhesions. NMT is an extension of deep friction & pressure techniques; it is applied with thumbs, fingers, fists or elbows, and is a diagnostic palpatory tool designed to help assess and deal with chronic pain.
